ABOUT THE ARTIST

Edward Kai Chiu (Born New York City, 1977) is a first-generation Asian-American artist who incorporates eastern sensibilities with western techniques in his painted, sculpture and mixed- media work. Professionally trained as a physician, his understanding of natural forces and knowledge of scientific theory and have both influenced his various projects over the past two decades. His collection of paintings, "Butterflies in the Wind" was exhibited at the Fire Island Pines Biennial Art Show in 2017 and a selection of his newest work has just been accepted into the show in 2019. Edward Kai has been a New York resident since birth, having gone to attended CUNY Brooklyn College, Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, and completed his residency at St. Vincent's in Manhattan's West Village. He considers New York City his muse and has contributed to many grassroots community-based organizations. He has served on the board of directors for APICHA community health center in Chinatown, donated to the Buddhist Association of the United States, and most recently established a scholarship program for NYU medical students. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, collecting Asian antiques, and blogging on his health and wellness site, www.KaiMD.com.
